New Siemens VDO Viewline instrument series offers boat builders and engine manufacturers even more flexibility in functionalities and design

Amsterdam, Netherlands, November 14, 2006

Siemens VDO will be offering boat builders, marine outfitters and engine manufacturers even greater flexibility in future. As successor to the Ocean Line series, the company is presenting its new generation of instruments, the Viewline series, at Mets (Marine Equipment Trade Show) in Amsterdam (November 14 -16, 2006). Conceived for all analogue engine monitoring and navigation sensor systems for motorboats and yachts, it is based on a completely new, standardized platform. In addition to the portfolio of standard engine monitoring and navigation instruments, this platform will, in future, offer boat builders and engine manufacturers a range of space-saving clusters and multi-function instruments. All Viewline instruments are easy to install and are available in a wide range of designs.

The new instruments with a diameter of 85 or 110 millimeters are the highlight of the Siemens VDO Viewline series. According to customers’ requirements, these instruments can now be supplied with up to five control lamps that can be controlled individually. As a standard feature, they possess a large LC digital display for diverse data. Engine revs and speed, for instance, can be displayed together on the one instrument. The Viewline series also includes a wide range of instruments with a diameter of 52 millimeters and display angles of 90 or 240 degrees for standard readings such as temperatures, pressures, levels or revs which are also equipped with LED warning and indicator lamps. A new polarized central plug makes it very simple to connect all the Viewline instruments.

In future, the Viewline platform will also enable multi-function displays on the 110 mm instruments: according to the customer’s specific requirements they can be fitted with up to three dial scales for analogue readings, a large LCD display for digital data and five warning or indicator lamps. For the first time this makes it possible for central engine functions to be integrated into the one instrument. This is ideal for skippers as they have all the information at one glance, while the manufacturer gains vital space, benefits from much easier installation and saves costs on the purchasing side.

For optimum integration on any type of boat, Viewline offers an exceptionally broad design choice of close to 1,000 instrument combinations. All the displays can be installed in the instrument panel, either flush mounted or with bezels. The dials come in two color variants and the bezels in three colors and three design variants. So the new Viewline series can be matched to fit perfectly into any cockpit.

Viewline is well equipped to meet the tough conditions on inland waterways and at sea: the double-glass cover technology prevents troublesome fogging. All visible components are UV-resistant. The backlighting technology allows optimum readability at night and in bad weather conditions. And the casings are completely secure against corrosion and salt water. The technology inside is so robust, shock-proof and temperature resistant that Siemens VDO is again having the Viewline series certificated by Germanischer Lloyd, thus meeting the quality standards for professional shipping. Viewline instruments can also be used on agricultural, construction and forestry vehicles, industrial machines and in small series for motorcycle or sports car manufacturers.
