Instrument Clusters Passenger Cars
For the ultimate overview
With space in the cockpit at a premium, designers have to make the most of the area available.
The result is a trend towards digital systems that can display a wide range of information. The instrument cluster of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is an excellent example: we developed a ring pointer that moves the speedometer needle around the dial from the outside. This gives the driver a clear view of the information displayed in the center of the instrument.
Previously, use of this area was restricted by the fact that the pointer movement was located in the center. On the luxurious Audi A8, a large, high-resolution TFT display was fitted as a new feature, supplementing the conventional instrument cluster and providing essential information in full color.
