Voice and data radio – The backbone of communication
Backbone
In a modern automatic vehicle location (AVL) system, digital radio forms the backbone of the system – all components are connected via radio. The VICOS-LIO AVL system is perfectly suited to use with digital radio as all detailed specifications have been agreed with all leading digital radio suppliers.
Free choice
Within a VICOS-LIO AVL system, the moving vehicles communicate via the available communication media, irrespective of whether this is analogue data radio, digital radio (TETRA, TETRAPOL, GPRS, GSM) or future methods.
Modularity
As one of the first AVL system suppliers we recognized a long time ago that digital radio systems would eventually catch on as the system of choice for AVL system applications. Because the VICOS-LIO AVL system has a modular configuration, it is only necessary to extend the software modules and interfaces depending on the digital radio system.
Mixed operation
And more: With VICOS-LIO it is even possible to operate digital and analogue radio systems in parallel! Operation of the radio systems is achieved in the vehicle and in the control centre via a common, consistent user interface.
Agreed all round
For the digital radio systems from Motorola, Nokia, Rohde & Schwarz as well as EADS, VICOS-LIO has modules that are based on VDV 423. This means we are the only AVL system supplier that implements its systems on the basis of detailed specifications that have been agreed by all leading digital radio suppliers.
To the benefit of everyone
All our customers can now benefit from this work, which was begun back in 1999 at the expert level. Ultimately, they can rely on optimum interaction between their AVL system and all digital radio systems established on the market for private and public networks.
