Vehicle Equipment – The Computer Center on Wheels
The IBISplus Onboard Computer
The latest generation of IBISplus onboard computers is a true computer center on wheels. In terms of its design and features, IBISplus is perfectly tailored to road and rail vehicles operating in public transport networks. There are two different types of mobile data terminals for the operation of IBISplus: firstly the IBISplus-MDT, which is fitted with foil keyboard and quarter-VGA screen, and secondly the fully graphical IBISplus-Touch touch-screen terminal.
The most important IBISplus functions
IBISplus knows “its” schedule and is able to establish its current position using beacons or signals from the satellite based Global Positioning System (GPS). From these two pieces of information – position and schedule – IBISplus can calculate whether the vehicle is travelling on time, early or with a delay. These details are transmitted to the control center which knows the current operating status throughout the transport authority’s entire operational network and can, where necessary, initiate appropriate action.
Depending on the system configuration IBISplus controls devices in the vehicle (for example the GPS receivers or sensors for counting the passengers) and guarantees contact with the control center.
Passenger counting
A reliable reading of passenger load in the vehicle (for example by infrared movement sensors) allows better planning of the use of vehicles as well as optimisation of the schedules. In addition, the passenger count represents an important basis for the division of earnings within a multi-agency involving several operators.
Vehicle location
Vehicle location is based on a combination of logical location, satellite-based location using GPS and physical location.
